What is the fifth character of an IFSC?
It is always the digit 0. That reserved position makes it possible to distinguish the four-letter bank prefix from the six-character branch identifier.
Can this checker identify an exact branch?
After a code passes the local format check, the page asks this site’s stateless IFSC API for a matching record in the current RBI-derived dataset. A result is still reference data and must be verified with the bank.
Is IFSC used outside India?
IFSC is an Indian domestic banking identifier. An international payment may additionally require the bank’s BIC/SWIFT code and the beneficiary’s account details.
